Contact Ted Brimeyer

Ted Brimeyer is part of Plymouth’s music team as Director of the Matins Choir. He is thrilled to be part of the vibrant community and rich tradition of excellence. Ted also serves as Director of Choirs at Urbandale High School, a position he has held since 2010. There, he leads a vibrant vocal music program at UHS enrolling 470 students in seven performing ensembles.

Ted joined the faculty of Drake University in 2020 as Teaching Artist of Choirs, conducting Borealis, the auditioned treble choir. The group recently completed an eight-day performance tour of Ireland alongside the Drake Choir. He finds it particularly rewarding to engage in the long term development of young musicians who start as 9th graders working all the way through four or five years of college.

Ted’s professional training includes a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education and German from Iowa State University. He owes a great debt to his many mentors including David Rayl, Jonathan Reed, and James Rodde in conducting and Molly Fillmore and Donald Simonson in voice. Cooking, being outdoors, and playing board games with kids Malley, Saffi, and August are among his favorite pastimes. He is constantly finding inspiration and joy with his intelligent, supportive, and patient partner Elyse.
