Help Pack Meals for Food Buddies!

School is starting soon and so is Plymouth’s backpack meal program at Hubbell Elementary School!

Plymouth’s Food Buddies will be packing meals and delivering weekend meal bags to Hubbell weekly starting September 12.

The goal of Food Buddies is to provide non-perishable, healthy and easy to prepare meals for children in need.  Many children rely on school provided breakfasts and lunches during the week and do not have reliable sources of food available on weekends.  Hubbell Elementary School is in the Plymouth neighborhood which provides a wonderful opportunity to reach out and help our neighbors.

Food Buddies is a volunteer program.  Meals are packed by volunteers twice a month before the Saturday night service at Plymouth.  Groceries are purchased by volunteers.  Meals are delivered to Hubbell by volunteers.  The only cost for the program is the food to fill the bags.

Want to help?  Volunteers to help with packing meals are always welcome.  Substitute meal deliverers and grocery shoppers are needed when regulars are not available.  This provides an opportunity to help but not commit to a regular schedule, and would be greatly appreciated.

Food donations help too.  As we all know, food costs have gone up and our dollars do not go as far as they used to.  Food Buddies has had the same problem.  Food donations for Food Buddies can be left in the donation boxes in the first floor and second floor hallways. Financial donations are always welcome and can be given to Plymouth with the notation that the donation is for Food Buddies.

Plymouth also supplies snack items to Hubbell classrooms for the teachers to have available for students who are hungry in class and not able to pay attention.  We will be collecting snack items to bring to Hubbell before school starts.
