Nov. 9-24: Cloth Napkin Drive

Cloth napkins may seem like a quaint tradition from your grandmother’s day but in today’s world of excessive waste, cloth napkins are an easy and effective means for Plymouth people to limit one-time paper use and become more aware of the impacts small habits can make on God’s creation.

In that spirit, the Plymouth Creation Care & Justice Committee is asking for donations of new or gently used 100% cotton cloth napkins.

Donations will be collected Saturday, Nov. 9 to Sunday Nov. 24 in a wicker basket by the Welcome Desk. Late donations will be accepted by arrangement with Amy Elbert (elbert.amylou@gmail.com) or Peg Mikulanec (pegmikulunec@yahoo.com).

Collected napkins will be stored at Plymouth and available to any group that wishes to use them. The Creation Care & Justice Committee will be responsible for laundering them.

Replacing a paper napkin with a cloth one may seem like a pretty small thing in the big scheme of global warming, but who knows? Maybe a conversation about how we can care for God’s creation can start with cotton napkins on our laps at a church social. And won’t it be fun to see your grandma’s favorite floral napkins on someone’s lap at the next Plymouth function?
