Iowa Sacred Harp Singing Convention | April 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Learn how to sing Early American shape-note music. An instructional singing school takes place at 9 a.m. before the convention begins at 9:30 a.m. Bring a dish for the potluck lunch at noon, a part of the Sacred Harp tradition. All are welcome, and no prior experience is needed. The event is free and open to all. Bring a Sacred Harp hymnal or borrow a book that will be provided. Observers are welcome, too!
Plymouth Youth Garage Sale | April 10 - April 12

Palm Sunday & Singing Church Sunday | April 13

Join the K-12 singing choirs for Singing Church Sunday and Palm Sunday at 9 a.m. worship. After a Palm Sunday parade entrance to worship, the Children’s Choirs, Soul Singers and Matins will lead worship through scripture and song as they explore themes of love. These choirs have lived out their love of God and others through song and are eager to share their gifts in worship together with our Plymouth community. Join the Chancel Choir and orchestra on Palm Sunday as they present “llluminare” by Des Moines composer Elaine Hagenberg. This extended work, consisting of five-movements for chorus and chamber orchestra incorporates lesser-known sacred Latin texts as it takes us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace.

At 7:30 p.m. join a traditional service of Maundy Thursday Communion around the table, as we observe the Last Supper, followed by the Tenebrae reading as we journey with Christ through Holy Week and descend into darkness.Good Friday | April 18

Join us at 7:30 p.m. for the Easter Vigil in Waveland Hall. Please note that there will be no 5 p.m. worship service this evening.Easter Sunday Services | April 20
Sunrise Service: Join us bright and early for a gathering of eager anticipants who simply cannot wait until 9 a.m. to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. This service will be held at 6:40 a.m. in the Memorial Garden.
Easter Service: Join us with your friends and family to celebrate the risen Christ and life restored at our Easter Sunday worship services at 9 and 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Heartland Youth Choir | April 25 at 7 p.m., April 26 at 3:30 p.m.
This year’s Heartland guest composer, Leeann Starkey, will work with students throughout each day of the festival, and at the end of the day, the singers will deliver a public concert. The concerts will include the world premiere of a newly composed work by Ms. Starkey, which was commissioned by Heartland Youth Choir for this year’s Festival. Get tickets here.
Des Moines Metro Opera | May 3 at 3 p.m.
Join us for a recital featuring mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce and pianist Allen Perriello. Chinese-American mezzosoprano Sun-Ly Pierce, Third Prize Winner of the 2024 Operalia competition, is rapidly establishing herself as a versatile and dynamic artist in both traditional and contemporary repertoire. Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble Concert | May 4 at 4 p.m.
The Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble will close its season with “A Celebration of Psalms”. Western choral music is frequently composed to texts from Christian traditions, and this program features music written to Psalms, a majority of which are known as the “Songs of David”. Get tickets here.
Flamy Grant Concert | May 9 at 7 p.m.
This concert is sponsored by the Rainbow Faith Coalition of Greater Des Moines, as part of Pride Weekend events. The performer, Flamy Grant, is a Southern drag queen with a powerful voice and insightful lyrics. Flamy’s music combines folk, gospel, and roots genres. Flamy’s work has been recognized by Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Entertainment Weekly.
Matins Home Concert | June 1 at 7 p.m.
The Matins end the program year with a concert filled with best-loved choral music from the 2024-2025 season.
Des Moines Concert Handbells | June 7 at 3 p.m.
Join the Des Moines Concert Handbells in concert, “From the Heart: Music of Love, Joy and Passion” at Plymouth on Saturday, June 7 at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to all. This concert also takes place at Gloria Dei Church on Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
